Stand Up for Something Bigger Than Ourselves

I found out about the documentary, Within Every Woman, on a few weeks ago and I was blown away.

They are in the very early stages of the production but what they have so far is compelling.

There are only hours left in the Kickstarter funding campaign and though they have reached their goal (whoohoo!), they still need your support.

I was at an intimate talk at the Centre for Social Innovation in the Annex last night. Tea, onion pancakes, dumplings and details about the genesis of the project that has become more than the documentation of the women who were forced into sexual slavery but about the process of healing and how this relates to women today in a world where the statistics concerning sexual violence against woman are astounding.

As much as I didn’t want to make a fool of myself in a room full of strangers, I couldn’t help but become emotional as they showed clips of the work they have done- many of which can be found on their website. I cried when I first saw them and I cried again as I watched the clips projected on the wall.

I became a supporter through Kickstarter and I reiterated my desire to help after the talk. I have been in the entertainment industry for about six years and being able to tell compelling stories is the main reason I got into the industry.

Even $1 is enough to get on their mailing list, to stay abreast of the developments.

In a world where people seem to be increasingly disconnected, get engaged, get involved, give a shit.
