On What Planet is Ford the Frontrunner in the Mayoral Election?

F*#%. Ours.

In one of the latest polls, the majority of people polled feel Rob Ford is the most trustworthy candidate.

Am I missing something?

That is not a rhetorical question.

Seriously, what am I not “getting”?

It is bad enough that Harper has been in office for what seems like decades, burning through money on advertising to tell Canadians how amazing the Conservative party is and how our lives are so much better with them at the helm but Ford?

He makes Harper look like a moderate. (Oh my God…. Is the campaigning working on me?)

I normally don’t pay a lot of attention to municipal politics but I am making sure my mom and my brother both vote.

The last time I heard a seemingly intelligent person say it could be “fun” to have a particular individual as mayor, we ended up with Mel Lastman- and we all know how awesome THAT was.

The big problem is the absence of strong competition. Even if you recognize their name, what do they really stand for and at the end of the day, they are all politicians who will say what they need to say, what they think voters want to hear to get them into office.

In fairness, their grand schemes for whatever may be legitimate aspirations but logistically, given all the restraints and the juggling that has to happen to make the city run, largely unfeasible unless the other levels of government, community, big business etc can be brought together.

Just thinking about it makes me tired.

So what is one to do?

Who is the lesser of all the evils?

Haven’t figured that out yet but I will.
