NYC- Here We Come!!!

Kind of on a whim, a girlfriend and I have planned a three day weekend in NYC for mid-October.

Originally it was three of us, then two, then three and now it looks like we have dropped back to two again. It may still go back to three but it stands at two- for now.

The more we talk about it, the more excited we get and the more research we do, the more we realize three days are not enough so we are already (tentatively) considering another journey in the spring.

We are such spazzes!

I haven’t been to NYC in a couple years. The last time I went was in July- ouch. If I want that kind of humidity I’ll go to Hawaii!

We had gotten on the topic of going to NYC and I told my friends how cheap travel by bus could be. They didn’t believe me until I forwarded the link to MegaBus. It will come to about $70 each, return. If we had booked sooner, it would have been about $47 each. Oh well, next time.

My girlfriend wanted to stay at The Pod Hotel and I used a coupon to get us a wee discount- very exciting!!! It is small and there are bunk beds (which I don’t mind) but we don’t plan to spend any more than six hours a night in the room so who cares. Besides, the location is amazing and the plan is to go for runs in Central Park in the morning….

So far, our must see/do/eat are going to St. Pat’s, Grand Central Station, the Brooklyn Flea, The Young Designers Market, Barneys (so I can search for my boots), S’MAC (a mac ‘n cheese restaurant in the East Village) and I just got tickets to see Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan at the Bowery Ballroom.

I am so giddy!

I have wanted to go to the Bowery for the longest time and I am currently obsessed with Honey Child What Can I Do. I discovered the song today and I have listened to it about 40 times (and counting). I knew nothing about the band and wondered why Lanegan’s voice was so familiar…. Screaming Trees!!!

Happy dance!

We have to jump on the subway at least once- I have never used it- even though we plan on doing a ridiculous amount of walking. One of my best experiences in New York was walking around the city on my own just as the city was starting to wake up. There were a few people walking their dogs, some street cleaners and that was it. This will sound dumb but it felt like I had the city all to myself for a couple hours.

We still have to find an amazing pizza place and I am hoping to hit some vintage stores but we may have to put MOMA on ice for this trip- that would be a whole day unto itself.

During a going away lunch for two co-workers, a friend revealed she was going on one of those Chinese bus trips to NYC where they spend most of their three days in outlet malls outside the city- getting only half a day in NYC.

I am such a snob- in my mind I was judging their plans and thinking our trip was going to be WAY cooler- for about the same price. Teehee.

I am sure our plans will change slightly but it is just the thing I need to make up for a crappy 40th last year and to get me through the craziness at work.

I can’t wait!!!
