Did You Play With Your Food As A Kid?
Or is this something you still do?
I never thought I played with my food and then I inadvertently grossed out my boyfriend.
I made this pressed sandwich and I was picking away at the bread innards- you have to hollow out the bread slightly otherwise it gets too thick and the grilled vegetables slide out when compressed.
Delicious calabrese bread bits. (And the sandwich itself wasn’t bad either.)
I asked him if he ever mushed up bread into little balls before eating and he gave me the look that walks the line between astonishment and disgust.
I would never be accused of being a neat freak but I am very meticulous when I eat. I hate making a mess and I really have to be in the mood for messy finger foods before I go there.
At school I knew this girl from residence who used to get sauces and bits of food stuck on her hand and she would not clean it off until she had finished eating. It was all I could do not to stare at the marinara that threatened to slide down her hand and onto her cuffs. As much as I wanted to wipe it off, I restrained myself.
My parents used to buy that whiter than white Wonder Bread and we used to form it into balls in our hands like one would do when shaping the rice to make sushi. I don’t know why- it could be a texture thing but it tasted better that way.
Oh well, it’s too late now- his opinion of me has fallen a few notches.
This kind of makes me wonder if I do (did) other things with food that others would find marginal.
