How Do You Get Your Own Money Back From a Friend?
The smart thing would have been NOT to lend money to friends in the first place.
But I am not that smart.
In fact, I am a total sucker when people need help- ask my sister.
I should check to see if ‘SUCKER’ is stamped on my forehead….
The stupid thing is I feel guilty asking for my money back- and it is not an insignificant sum.
The original purpose of this loan was to assist in a business start-up but the original concept has changed. That is not a bad thing but as an investment, it no longer makes any sense.
Of course the fact that I will be out of a job in a few months is another reason I want to call in all outstanding loans and increase my emergency fund. Even with the so-called economic recovery, it will be months before any of that trickles down to the masses and I do not want to be in the position of having to rely on anyone else to cover my obligations.
It’s not that I don’t trust her- I wouldn’t have entered into this arrangement in the first place if I had any doubts. My only issue is that I haven’t received a reply to my emails. I sent out two emails because the first one bounced back from two of the addresses I have on file for her.
I think a Facebook message is in order.
Done.
And now I wait.
Considering all the stressors I have right now, waiting is not so easy.
Will it hurt if I don’t get it back? Yes, but I really don’t think that will be the issue. It will be a matter of when.
And the when is a little more pressing right now.
Worst case scenario, I’ll still be fine. I would never “invest” with money I could not afford to lose but if it came down to that, I guess I will be down a friend.
This should be a lesson learned but a couple weeks ago I loaned a friend some money to tie her over because her ex is jerking her around. I couldn’t stand the thought of her and her daughter being on the street so I cut her a cheque.
I hope this doesn’t come back to bite my butt (too?).
