Canada: Drug Hub
UN Office on Drugs and Crime put out a 314 page report and apparently Canada is the world’s main supplier of meth and ecstacy.
Go Canada!
Yes, that is EXACTLY what we want to be known for- screw the igloos and Mounties, we are badass drug dealers.
The chief culprits behind the drugs…Asian gangs. Great- even better. Much of the traffic is apparently coming out of the west coast. What, marijuana isn’t good enough anymore???
According to the report, 83% of total seized imports of meth(amphetamines) by weight in Australia came from Canada. The figure in Japan is 62%. I was blown away by the high figures but it also made me wonder why they were being smuggled in the first place. Is domestic production so low (or the demand so high) that they have to import the drugs or are these countries doing something to prevent the production of the drugs in the first place?
Apparently there has been a steady rise since 2003 and even a dramatic increase from 2006 and 2007.
I wonder why this is- I would love to get my hands on this report for a perusal.
I imagine this will be something else U.S. authorities will cite as a reason to continue tightening the Canada-U.S. border- especially since it has been proven that none of the 9-11 terrorists came through Canada.
I started to read some of the comments at the end of the article on cbc.ca and had to stop because it was more than a little frustrating. The finger-pointing would be laughable except that some people actually believe this garbage.
We, society as a whole, need to take responsibility for what is happening. What are the underlying reasons that people are getting involved in the production of these drugs and why are people taking them in the first place?
It is never just one thing that breaks open the flood-gates. Never.
