I Am The Fly
Note: Not for the squeamish.
In a three day stretch a few weeks ago, I played five hours of tennis, walked four hours and played about 25 minutes of intense floor hockey (checking apparently allowed).
In that period, I did something to a couple of my toes. The nails bruised and it hurt!
People who run probably know where I am going with this.
I have been applying dark nail polish to my nails because it looks quite disgusting. The last thing I need is for people to be pointing it out and trying to hold back vomit. I could take a picture of it but this is not THAT kind of blog.
I didn’t really pay any attention (because they no longer hurt) until I noticed the bruised nails were not growing out like the others- easy to tell when painted with polish. I had a look and noticed they sat higher on the nail bed and were actually becoming detached.
What did I do? Looked it up on the internet, of course!!!
Nails can fall off due to fungus (!) or a sports related trauma. Since my dilemma is due to the latter, the best thing to do is nothing. Okay- but I am a little freaked out by how easily the nail can be wiggled.
The estimate I found stated that it will take anywhere between 12 and 16 months before growing out. My nails grow very fast so I am hoping it takes much less time.
The vain princess in me is wondering how it will look when the new nail finally grows in. Only somewhat traumatic because I won’t be able to wear sandals and summers in the city can be very hot and humid.
In the long term, it looks like my career as a foot model has ended before it began.
Oh well, I’ll live.
