Lost Generation

I was forwarded a link to a video that made me weepy.

In a good way.

It was created for the AARP U@50 video contest. It placed second. I couldn’t help but wonder what won!??!

Of course, I had to look it up…. It was okay. I liked the way they ended it. The winning entry has only received a fraction of the hits compared to Lost Generation.

It was based on an ad for an Argentinian politician. I wonder if he won?

The idea is very simple but so effective.

Even though the idea is not original, the execution was excellent. It takes the stereotype of disaffected and apathetic youth and turns it on its head, literally. The video really makes you think and feel- the goal of anything creative.

I am jealous that I didn’t do it and a 20-year old did!!!

There are detractors, of course. I have only watched it once. I am almost afraid to watch it again because the impact of the twist was powerful. Will I start to pick it apart if I watched it again ? Maybe.

I am a softie at heart with a big crusty layer of cynicism for protection. I am either vulnerable or tired for this to affect me the way it has. Or human.

I would have had a very different reaction if I had seen the political advertisement first. The cynic in me would have lashed out.

I think I’ll put it away. Come back to it another time and see how I feel about the video then. Regardless of how I feel about it upon a second viewing, it is definitely worth at least one look.
