80’s Flashback

I was in the mall the other day and walked by the Zara window and had a woozy 80’s flashback.

One of the mannequins was styled to look just like Molly Ringwald from Pretty in Pink. Pseudo tweedy jacket with the sleeves rolled up to the elbow, a dusty pink shell, bloomer-ish shorts with high-top sneakers resembling cons and a jaunty fedora.

I loved her character in that movie. She was an outsider- I could relate. These John Hughes movies are so old. I wonder what Hughes has done since then…

I haven’t seen the movies in years. There was a bunch of us in high school who would get together to watch The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink (of course) all the time. One of my friends could recite each line in character as the movie played. Funny- and sometimes a little annoying.

I wonder if these movies would hold up now….

Not too long ago I watched Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. I loved it. The music was awesome and I loved the characters. I am a little biased because I think Michael Cera is hysterical.

Is it weird that I would be about the same age as the kids’ parents? Frightening thought.  Am I that juvenile??

What I need to do is look for the music on YouTube or MySpace…I just printed out a list of music from IMDB so I am ready to go.

What I really need to do is rent these movies and make it an 80’s weekend. Not now- too many good movies coming out but maybe when September rolls around- the timing will add to the nostalgia.
