Clerical Errors = Get Out of Jail Free Card
I am kind of thinking I am glad I don’t live in Nova Scotia right now.
On the news last night there was a story about the number of prisoners released accidentally because the wrong box was checked off on paperwork.
Ooops.
And we are not just talking about people who are in for “petty” things like drug possession or disorderly conduct. Some of these are dangerous offenders.
At least six have accidentally been released since January 2008. This is pretty scary.
If you google “clerical errors leading to early release” enough comes up to know that this is not a rare occurrence.
Sh!t happens but this is a little extreme.
I don’t know what they are doing to fix this but this has been happening long enough for people to take a serious look at what processes need to be in place to ensure that this kind of thing doesn’t keep happening. Justice Minister Cecil Clarke has offered to resign but his offer has been turned down by the Premier.
What happens next is anyone’s guess but what they have done to date (if anything) obviously has not been working.
The more I think about it, the more this sounds like a plot device in a thriller.
Hmmm….
