Maybe Miley is One of Them

My boyfriend finds the craziest stuff online.

He forwarded this link to an article about some ridiculous things that will come up when you enter “i am extremely” into Google.

I thought he was joking. What does this say about people in general- other than the fact that some people have a lot of time on their hand. Of course, the last one caught my eye…303,000 people are extremely terrified of chinese people.

Seriously?I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

I have always (half) joked that you haven’t really lived until you have made some enemies but what have chinese people done to elicit extreme terror?

I remember hearing the phrase, The Yellow Peril. Coined in the 19th century, western countries like the U.S. and Australia used this phrase to describe the fear that Chinese immigrant workers were going to ruin life as they knew it. Take your jobs, take your women, take over.

What does this sound like? Hmmm…

Fear and ignorance. People fear what they don’t know. People are afraid of the increasing might of China and the potential impact when (and it is when) they decide to flex their muscles.

While I think it may be prudent to be wary of China, being terrified of Chinese people, all Chinese people everywhere, is more than a little ridiculous. There are always going to be ridiculous people around. One can only hope that none of them become leaders of the free world- oh, it has already happened.

Damn!
