What Do You People Not Get? Part II
I find myself yelling at the t.v. a lot these days- just ask my boyfriend.
I am frustrated by people writing and speaking to the media who are obviously parroting the Conservative propaganda machine. I really don’t know why I am so surprised.
People are sheep.
Let’s look at a couple facts that people seem to be disregarding completely.
A coalition government is NOT undemocratic.
A coalition government is NOT illegal.
While some of my very left leaning friends are doing little jigs, one of my friends is going crazy- she has been forwarding articles about the haps for the past couple days. (As a total aside, both she and my staunch-NDP for life friend voted Liberal in the 2004 election because Harper was THAT scary for them. Interesting.)
While I tend to filter everything through a small “l” liberal, the middle-way-is-the-right-way, suck-it-up-and-deal viewpoint, she unreservedly leans towards the right- conservative in the former Progressive Conservative sense.
We are so alike in many ways and so diametrically opposed in others. One of the main reasons why we have such a great friendship is our ability to talk about the issues and get past the labeling of a viewpoint as right-wing versus not right-wing. There are things upon which we agree to disagree but with every issue, there is a degree of commonality.
This doesn’t happen a lot. I have come to metaphorical blows with people over very trivial things. I have a real issue with people who prejudge and who do not listen. More than half of a conversation is listening- a skill that most people don’t seem to have these days.
If today’s Question Period was any indication, people need to do a little more listening before opening their traps and spewing garbage (and, in some cases, outright lies) to spur the rabid to action.
Take a deep breath, ask questions and listen before you follow the lemming over the cliff.
